A young man of common birth, he's the best friend to the present king of Lucis. His job is to protect Noctis and he will give him his life as long as he wants it. Ever at his side.
He's been on a road trip, their goal originally to get his best friend to his wedding, they've lost Insomnia to Niflheim. The Glaives and Guards are scattered and their king is in exile, believed to be dead. Everything's gone bad since the start.
A master marksman and sharpshooter, he honed his skills on the road and has long since proven his ability to burn down a Niflheim base if he needs to. Having just been rescued as a prisoner of war, Prompto is a traumatized mess, but he's going to hang in there.
Keep on keeping on, that's his motto.

Prompto's eyes look purple in the sun. He is often seen without sleeves, preferring to keep his arms bare. He's never without his bracelets, as they hide some tattoos. He has a barcode on his right arm, and on his left he has a bracelet of barbed wire and a star. He keeps these tattoos hidden.

Unit 05953234 was created as a clone in the First Magitek Production Facility. He is a clone of Verstael Besithia, created in the year 735. He was branded with a production barcode and remained in the facility until 736 when he was removed, likely through a Lucian attack. He was taken to Insomnia, likely examined and when the Lucian military was finished looking him over, he was released and adopted to an Insomnia couple, where he got his name - Prompto Argentum.
The Argentums were absent parents at best. Working in Accordo while leaving Prompto behind in Insomnia, he was left to his own devices pretty much from when he was in school. He was given money to feed himself and like any kid, he just decided to eat junk food. This caused him to be quite overweight by the time he was a pre-teen. He attempted to introduce himself to Noctis, but he was too clumsy, fell and Noctis called him heavy when helping him up. He took that to heart, that he was not good enough for Noctis and decided to change his life. He changed his diet, he took up running and decided to transform himself. By the time he was fifteen he was a bit on the skinny side and his glasses had likely been replaced by contacts. He tried again to introduce himself to Noctis - and they have been thick as thieves ever since.
Prompto didn't really have a future plan when high school ended. He entertained going into photography but at some point he realized that he was going to lose Noctis to his duty and he made the decision that he didn't want to do that. He began going through the process to become a member of the Crownsguard, including getting his skills and body in shape. He was not ready for his exam, but when Noctis said he was getting married and insisted Prompto be allowed to come, he was granted special permission and his fatigues.
The night after they leave Insomnia, Niflheim who had been visiting to sign a treaty, tore Insomnia apart, burning it to the ground. The king was killed and Noctis presumed dead. He did his best to keep his friends' spirits up as they realized that everything was about to change. The roadtrip was often grueling and hard. After Altissia, there were fractures everywhere in the group and Ardyn was able to trick Noctis into throwing Prompto from a train.
He was captured wandering the snowy tundra in Niflheim and taken to the First Magitek Production Facility. Prompto was let loose in the facility and armed for Ardyn's amusement. He wanted both for Prompto to learn that he was considered worthless to someone like him, and had the added benefit of Prompto taking out Besithia, who was becoming a bit of a problem. Prompto did massive damage to the base, nearly destroying it single-handedly and with Aranea's help he escaped.
It was a game, however, that Ardyn was playing with him. He was subsequently captured before he was able to reunite with his friends and taken to Zegnautus Keep, right in the heart of Niflheim. There, Prompto was subjected to torture, until Noctis could find his way there and rescue him. Battered and bruised and very nearly broken, Prompto confesses immediately what he'd learned, that he was a clone and a Niff. Noctis dismissed him outright. He is a Lucian citizen, by order of the king.
Without any time to recover really, Noctis would be spirited away into the crystal that Ardyn had stolen and Prompto would try to regroup with Ignis and Gladio, and face the future while they waited for the return of their king.
