History/World: This is how Eos works, plot of the game.
This is Prompto's story.
Personality: Prompto is a bright, bubbly ray of sunshine who's role in the party is to diffuse tension and keep things as lighthearted as possible, for as long as possible. He prefers to crack jokes, offer good humour and isn't afraid to distract people from their woes with a bright smile and sometimes a song. He sometimes comes across as trying too hard because deep down, he isn't quite that light hearted. He carries a heavy past, a deeply sometimes crippling social anxiety and a lack of confidence in himself that sometimes bleeds through.
Determined and goal-oriented, Prompto can accomplish anything when he puts effort into it. When he decided that his life was not going how he wanted, with a gentle nudge from the Oracle, he was the one who put the work into changing. He took up running when he was twelve, and continues to use it to this day for training and as a way to handle his anxiety. When he emerged on the other side at fifteen he reinvtented himself. He mentioned to Noctis once that some of this cheer and persona is a bit of an act, so people will like him. Despite that admission, a lot of it became his personality, and he's quite genuine most of the time. In the toughest of times is when he finds he has to push himself.
He's passionate about photography and immensely grateful to Noctis, who became his first friend and really drew him out of his shell. He truly came into his own once Noctis was a permanent fixture in his life. He's naturally shy, and when encountering strangers, his anxiety manifests in a stutter. Noctis tends to be a buffer between him and the rest of the world at the best of times. In the worst times, he is forced to persevere on his own, and he does so with a surprising amount of resolve for his apparent nature.
Prompto is strong and self-sufficient. He learned to take care of himself, because no one was going to look after him. He has a strong desire to protect this friendship at all costs, and he glosses over some of the worst parts of his life to protect his friends' feelings. He has difficulty asking for help, or being the one in the position who needs to be protected.
He isn't afraid to run headlong into danger to save or protect his friends, less concerned about what is going to happen to him. He's determined and motivated - he joined the Crownsguard to ensure that his best friend had another protector in him. He fully believes in Noctis and his nature as the future of Lucis. He never doubted him, even if he still sees him as the lanky, bratty teenager he grew up with. When push comes to shove, Prompto will fall in line, every time.
He cherishes his friends as though they are family because frankly, he doesn't have one. When his mentor praises him, he laps it up. In all honesty, before Noctis, Prompto was a very sad, lonely person. He would do anything to keep that going for as long as he can.
Over the course of the trials they went through, Prompto was kidnapped and subjected to horrible torture at the hands of the enemy to the point he needed to be rescued. Although he comes across as the weakest member, he is not one to be underestimated because someone who has nothing to lose is dangerous when backed into a corner. The experience has left him shaken, depressed and with a fresh set of nightmares. Prompto struggled a great deal in the aftermath, particularly because that was when Noctis left them.
For the following ten years, Prompto held steadfast the belief that Noctis would return and they would find the light again, having spent the last decade in darkness. He took responsibility of the Hammerhead outpost, demonstrating leadership skills and earned a great deal of respect as a hunter in his own right. He built upon the momentum of destroying a base essentially alone and has become quite battle hardened. Over the course of that period, countless people have died around him.
His loyalty to Noctis never wanes and he walks with him to the end in formal Crownsguard attire to aid in the final battle.
Items: Prompto keeps in one of his pockets a stack of200 199 photographs from the journey they've been on. A handgun in a holster 'Lionheart'. The Audax Blade strapped to his back. Formal but very filthy uniform. He still wears his leather cuffs and fingerless gloves, to hide his tattoos.
Powers/skills: Prompto is an expert marksman. His weapon of choice is a handgun. He's also been known to wield a submachine gun, a sniper rifle, a bazooka, with a knife as his choice for stealth/close range encounters. He tends to avoid close range encounters as much as possible. He's also wielded a wide variety of Imperial technological weapons. He's excellent at stealth and can bring down the enemy with one strike of the knife. Despite his lack of proficiency, he can be seen wielding in the short term any of the weapons in Noctis' arsenal (through the link strikes), but typically he doesn't bring a knife to a gun fight.
Prompto had a variety of skills that required magic to execute - but as the Crystal has been destroyed and his magic came from Noctis, he doesn't have them anymore. He is an adept mechanic, proficient in the highest level of Niff technology as part of his creation. He's a leader in his own right and incredibly battle hardened, having been a monster hunter for the past ten years.
He's an avid, published photographer. He studied the subject a lot in his youth and gained some employment through Vyv Dorden over the course of the events prior to Noctis' ascention. He may be out of practice.
